Québec Parental Insurance Plan

The Québec Parental Insurance Plan (QPIP) provides replacement income for salaried and self-employed parents who take leave to welcome a new child into their family. In this way, it provides parents with greater financial security and helps them balance their work and family lives.

The Québec Parental Insurance Plan at a glance

Eligible workers:

  • Salaried workers
  • Self-employed workers

Two separate plans:

  • A basic plan, providing longer coverage (up to 55 weeks of benefits)
  • A special plan, which provides shorter coverage (up to 43 weeks) but replaces a higher percentage of your income

Four types of benefits:

  • maternity
  • paternity
  • parental
  • adoption
